Contract | $70–$80/hr + Accommodation
We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project based in regional NSW, with support from a Sydney head office. This is a contract opportunity with strong potential to transition into a permanent full time role. This person will be based in Sydney to travel to head office there and fly out to the project.
The Role
You will play a key role in driving both safety and environmental performance on-site, ensuring compliance, promoting a positive culture, and supporting project delivery from an HSE perspective.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and enforce HSE compliance across site activities
- Lead environmental management initiatives and ensure adherence to environmental regulations and approvals
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Promote a strong safety culture through engagement and coaching
- Maintain and manage HSE documentation and reporting
- Support the Office Manager with tender submissions and related documentation
- Liaise with stakeholders including contractors, site teams, and management
- Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (WHS)
- Environmental qualification (desired)
- Strong environmental background with proven on-site experience
- Demonstrated experience in both safety and environmental roles
- Experience within construction projects (essential)
- Exposure to renewable energy projects (highly desirable)
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work autonomously in a regional site environment
- Competitive hourly rate: $70–$80 per hour (depending on experience)
