About the role
We’re seeking a Soils Design Technician to join our clients' dynamic Soils & Foundations team and play a key technical role in protecting homeowners, builders, and construction partners from avoidable design and construction risks.
As a Soils Design Technician, you’ll be at the technical heart of site classification and foundation assessment. This role goes beyond administrative reporting, it’s about making sound, technically defensible judgements that directly influence foundation design, construction risk, cost, and long-term building performance. You’ll work across the full spectrum of soil assessment, from interpreting field logs, lab results, and site observations to producing clear, compliant soil reports and slab/footing recommendations. Your expertise will ensure classifications are consistent, accurate, and value-adding for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret field logs, soil profiles, laboratory results, and site observations to determine accurate soil, wind, and BAL classifications.
- Apply Australian Standards (AS 2870, AS 4055, AS 1170.2, AS 1726, AS 2159, AS 3959, AS 4678), NCC requirements, and company procedures.
- Produce high-quality soil reports and design documentation using WordPro and D-Cad.
- Provide slab and footing design recommendations that are technically defensible and client-focused.
- Exercise technical judgement, identifying non-standard risks and escalating when required.
- Collaborate closely with drilling, laboratory, foundations design, and offshore teams to ensure alignment of classification inputs.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and minimise rework through self-checking and attention to detail.
- Producing consistent, defensible, and cost-effective site classifications across diverse sites.
- Applying sound judgment rather than relying solely on templates or defaults.
- Achieving high audit accuracy and minimizing at-fault amendments.
- Building credibility as a trusted technical contributor within the Soils & Foundations Team.
The successful candidate will be meticulous, technically minded, and take pride in accuracy. This person ideally will enjoy applying their soil and foundation knowledge to real-world construction challenges and thrive when their work directly contributes to safety, quality, and client trust. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential.
Why Join?
- Be part of a technically respected, high-performing team.
- Work on a wide variety of sites and projects, expanding your expertise.
- Make a real impact on construction safety, performance, and client satisfaction.
