Mechanical/Process Engineer
Industrial Equipment & Systems Design

Sydney or Brisbane | Full-time - Permanent

A small but highly specialised engineering firm providing turnkey equipment and integration solutions across industrial, recycling, and material handling sectors is seeking a Mechanical/Process Engineer to design and deliver high-quality engineering solutions for client projects. This role offers full ownership of the design process, working on complex industrial systems with support through to installation and commissioning.

About the Company
The company provides turnkey engineering solutions for industrial clients, supplying and integrating specialised equipment from leading global manufacturers.

Project Summary - What You'll Do
This company has been engaged by a client to deliver the design engineering package for the rectification and replacement of their Pollution Treatment Plant (PTP). The facility is in significant disrepair with corroded effluent tanks, a failing oil-water separator, and outdated pneumatic and PLC systems. The project will provide fit-for-purpose design documentation and IFC drawings to enable the client to tender and construct a modern, compliant wastewater treatment system.

This project offers engineers the opportunity to contribute to a critical client infrastructure upgrade, ensuring environmental compliance, operational resilience, and long-term sustainability of wastewater treatment operations.

Key aspects of the project include:
  • Development of staged design deliverables (30%, 50%, 80%, 100%) with hold points
  • Preparation of Bill of Materials/Quantities, safety-in-design reports, and technical specifications
  • RPEQ certification of all design documents or ability to obtain it
  • Ongoing engineering support during construction tender review
Design considerations emphasise:
  • Options for fixed vs. modular/package plants
  • Compliance with Australian Standards, environmental regulations, and trade waste permits
  • Robust, low-maintenance solutions with automation and remote monitoring capability
  • Cost-effective design with strong ROI and lifecycle efficiency
  • Future-proofing for operational needs, workforce safety, and replication across other client sites
What You Bring
  • Strong experience in mechanical or process engineering, ideally with exposure to industrial systems design.
  • Proven ability to independently deliver full design packages (drawings, specifications, documentation).
  • Comfortable using engineering software of your choice.
  • Self-driven, organised, and able to manage your own workload.
  • RPEQ certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Willingness to travel for installation and commissioning support.
Why This Role Stands Out
  • Immediate start on technically challenging, high-profile industrial projects.
  • Full ownership of design with influence over engineering solutions and project outcomes.
  • Exposure to specialised equipment integration and complex industrial systems.
  • Competitive salary plus potential performance-based incentives.
  • Opportunity to grow in a small, agile company where your engineering designs have real impact.
