Ascera Energy is a fast-growing renewable energy company delivering large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and behind-the-meter solar projects across Australia. Backed by Federation Asset Management, the company focuses on designing, developing, and delivering innovative energy solutions that optimise grid performance and support the transition to clean energy. With a ~4GW project pipeline, Ascera combines technical excellence, strong industry relationships, and a forward-looking approach to make a tangible impact on Australia’s energy future.
About the Role
This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering position suited to someone who thrives on delivery and detail. You won’t just be overseeing consultants — you’ll be in the thick of the design, engineering, and technical execution that brings large-scale renewable projects to life.
As the technical lead, you’ll take full ownership of electrical design, specifications, and grid connection aspects, ensuring quality, compliance, and performance across every stage of project delivery. This role is ideal for a “do-er” engineer who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, solving complex technical challenges, and driving outcomes on real-world projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical delivery — lead the hands-on design, specification, and development of project electrical systems
- Prepare and review detailed design packages, drawings, and scopes of work to ensure compliance and technical excellence
- Drive the technical side of contract negotiations, including design, equipment, construction, and connection
- Act as a technical Subject Matter Expert, personally reviewing and approving designs to meet standards and performance targets
- Get into the detail – review EPC designs, calculations, and deliverables for accuracy, constructability, and completeness
- Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams, providing practical, technical direction rather than high-level oversight
- Prepare RFQs, evaluate tenders, and support procurement through hands-on technical and commercial assessments
- Engage directly with contractors, suppliers, and OEMs to ensure technical and quality alignment
- Ensure all designs and deliverables meet Australian and international standards, regulatory, and safety requirements
- Work closely with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders during design, construction, testing, and commissioning
- Provide on-the-ground technical input during construction and commissioning, supporting issue resolution and performance validation
- Collaborate with the Grid Connection Manager and NSPs on connection studies, options, and agreements
- Build and maintain strong technical relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered status desirable)
- 10+ years’ experience delivering high-voltage and complex electrical projects end-to-end
- Proven background in hands-on design, construction, and commissioning of HV infrastructure
- Strong experience within EPCs or consultancies where you’ve delivered, not just overseen, project outcomes
- Deep technical understanding of HV systems, substations, BoP, and generator connection processes
- Strong grasp of Australian and international standards, safety, and compliance requirements
- CAD proficiency and ability to interpret or develop drawings, schematics, and design documentation
- Solid experience with risk assessments and mitigation strategies in technical delivery
- Strong coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Familiarity with the NEM or WEM advantageous
- Attractive salary + exceptional bonus structure tied to project success
- Direct impact on major renewable energy projects within a ~4GW development pipeline
- High-level exposure working closely with the CEO and leadership team
- Technically focused role – own the engineering delivery without excessive client or PM distractions
- Flexible work arrangements supporting autonomy and work-life balance
- Career growth as Ascera Energy continues rapid expansion with strong financial backing
