A newly created opportunity for a senior energy professional to lead the short-term physical trading function for a growing portfolio of generation across battery and hybrid assets.

In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll design and oversee a 24/7 physical trading model, help set up and manage BESS automated bidding systems, and ensure compliant and optimised bidding and dispatch in the NEM. You’ll play a critical role in managing market exposure across generation and load, and provide commercial insights to support investment decisions. Over time, you’ll help shape and build a high-performing internal trading team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Trading Strategy: Support the development and execution of short-term trading strategies across physical assets to maximise commercial returns and manage risk.
  • Market Operations: Design and implement an operating model for 24/7 market operations using third-party autobidder software and outsourced trading room support.
  • Asset Dispatch: Ensure optimal and compliant bidding and dispatch of semi-scheduled and scheduled assets, including override capability for automated bidding systems in real-time conditions.
  • Compliance & Registration: Oversee AEMO registration processes and ensure trading activities are compliant with the NER, AEMO procedures, and environmental schemes.
  • Data and Reporting: Analyse market trends, performance metrics and dispatch outcomes. Prepare reporting dashboards and insights to inform strategy and internal stakeholders.
  • Technology Integration: Collaborate with internal IT and systems teams to ensure seamless integration between market data, SCADA feeds, and ETRM/autobidder systems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the key liaison with trading service providers, metering companies, AEMO and other market participants.
Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in market operations, with proven ability to lead teams or outsourced providers
  • Hands-on experience with automated bidding systems and real-time trading
  • Ability to interpret market data, deliver insights, and adapt trading strategies in fast-moving conditions
  • Ideally, experience with renewables, battery storage, SCADA/MMS systems, and structured storage contracts
  • Familiarity with AEMO procedures, environmental schemes, and relevant Victorian regulations
Benefits
  • Play a key role in shaping Australia's renewable energy future
  • Lead the physical market function from the ground up in an opportunity to make this newly created role your own
