Permanent Role | Sydney CBD | Design-Focused Studio
As someone who spent over a decade in practice before moving into recruitment, I get it — the front-end of a project is where the real joy is. That early stage where the ideas form, the site speaks, and the potential starts to emerge. This role is exactly about that.
I'm working with a well-established Sydney studio with a great reputation for delivering well-resolved, design-led commercial and mixed-use projects.
They’re currently looking for a Mid-Level Architect and also open to a strong Architectural Graduate who can demonstrate real design ability.
What they're after:
They need someone who’s passionate about design at the early stages — concept, feasibility, planning strategy, and development applications. It’s not about documentation or construction detailing here (though there’s plenty of that in the studio too); this is about working closely with Directors and Seniors to shape the direction of a project from the ground up.
The right person will likely have:
- 5–8 years’ post-grad experience if you’re applying at Architect level
- Or 1–3+ years in-studio if you’re a Graduate with serious design chops
- A strong portfolio of early-stage work — clear, intelligent, well communicated
- Confidence in producing presentations and communicating design intent
- Ideally, experience with commercial, workplace, or mixed-use typologies
- ArchiCAD experience is preferred (it’s what the studio uses), but they’ll happily consider others if your design work stands out
- Solid understanding of the NSW planning system, or at least the willingness to get across it quickly
- Full unrestricted working rights - no sponsorship. You must be in Sydney now! Essential
You’ll be working with a team that genuinely values design and treats concept development as a collaborative, iterative process — not a solo race to the finish line. They’re not the loudest studio in the room, but they’ve got substance, a strong pipeline, and a clear design ethos.
There’s also genuine flexibility here — they understand people work differently and they’re not about burning you out. The studio is well structured, with approachable leadership and a calm, productive environment.
