Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Senior / Principal Geotechnical / Tailings Engineer to join our client's Asset Engineering & Digital team, focusing on a specific ash dam at our long-standing site office in the Newcastle area. This is a standalone role ideal for a professional who enjoys working autonomously and is seeking stability rather than extensive career progression. This role will be working across the day to day operations, providing technical support and compliance across a major ash dam facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Engineering: Undertake design work related to tailings management, including groundwater management, foundations, and slope stability.
- Autonomous Operation: Work independently on the tailings dam, managing design, implementation, and ongoing assessment.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Legislation, and actively support the company's Health, Safety, and Environment Systems.
- Asset Management: Provide technical expertise on civil, geotechnical, and tailings assets, supporting the development and implementation of Asset Management Plans.
- Technical Communication: Engage with external consultants, provide guidance on engineering practices, and report on technical issues and improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Accredited to the Washington Accord).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in tailings dam engineering, water dams engineering, ash dams or related, preferably in power generation or heavy industry.
- Experience / familiarisation with ANCOLD/ICOLD standards, ISO 55000, and relevant tailings dam legislative requirements.
- Ability to work autonomously and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical skills, safety focus, and effective communication abilities.
- Strong compliance acumen paired with strong technical engineering skills.
- CPEng or commitment to achieving this qualification.
- Experience in the use of geotechnical software and reporting tools such as gINT, CPT GeoLogismiki, slope stability analysis using Geostudio suite.
- Experience in field mapping, inspections, and geohazard assessments for major infrastructure assets.
