Team Leader, Transport Economist > Afghanistan, 24 month contract.

My client is looking for a Team Leader for a rural roads project in Afghanistan. The objective of this capacity building project is to provide people in rural areas of Afghanistan year round access to basic services and facilities by the rehabilitation and maintenance of a large network of rural roads. Based in Kabul this is a 24 month contract for an experienced Engineer with a solid background as a transport economist.

The project will involve the collection of data relevant to rural access and preparation of a database on condition and demand for transport on some 120,000km of local roads. The assessment of capacity of organizations to be responsible for road maintenance and designing an institutional framework and procedures for planning and implementing the rehabilitation and maintenance programme.

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree or Higher in Civil Engineering
  • A minimum of 20 years experience as a Transport Economist or Road Maintenance Engineer.
  • Capacity Building experience.
  • Experience in Afghanistan is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of the project including setting up the Road Management System, arranging for data collection and review and the preparation of an action plan.
  • Capacity building of the Public and Private sectors and provision of Project Management support.
  • Manage a team of 5 international and 8 national professional staff plus support personnel.
  • Liaison with key stakeholders and preparation of project reports.

This opportunity is with an internationally recognized consultant with global operations. They have a strong presence in Kabul and this position will be office based. An excellent package is available along with a sound security record in Afghanistan.
